The United States Bowhunters Association (USBA) is being formed to provide archery competition events, wherein, novice, average and expert archers compete for prizes and/or money on a nearly equal basis. It is the intention of the USBA to promote the sport of archery by offering competitions that allow all archers the opportunity to win an archery event regardless of their current skill.

In archery, as in all sports, skill is developed over time and a participant reaches different plateaus of development along the way. It is these plateaus of development which will be considered when competing one archer against another at USBA events. Only archers of the same or nearly the same plateau will compete against one another. At USBA sanctioned archery competitions the skill level of all archers will be determined during their initial USBA sanctioned competition. At that time each archer will be ranked and given a numeric ranking value. This value will allow all competitors both male and female to compete on an even playing field within a small range of skill variance.

Youth ages 5-17 will compete for prizes only in USBA events unless permission is granted in writing by a legal parent prior to competition. The legal parent must be present at the registration of the youth and display proper credentials.

THE RANKING PROCESS WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
Whenever a competitor finishes a competition and has not been previously ranked, their ranking value will be computed based on a predetermined and randomly picked 10 targets, their overall score, and the average of ten targets based on the overall score. For example; a archer shoots a acore of 390 for a 40 target course and their random 10 target score is 96. 390 divided by 4 = 97.5. The average of 97.5 and 96 is 96.75. Their skill level will be based on 96.75.

An archer that wins the overall Kings Mountain USBA Buckle Series in
skill levels 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be moved to the next higher skill level and can
not be moved backwards for a period of one year. An archer that wins skill
level 10 will be moved back to the next shooting stake and will remain there
for a period of one year however their skill level will be re-evaluated. Any
archer that wins a skill level has the option to change equipment and move
to the apporpriate stake and will be re-evaluated. If an archer wins their
skill level a second consecutive year, they will not be moved back an
additional stake the following year.

This ranking number will be used for all future USBA competitions. However, when a competitor scores greater or lower than his/her current ranking value at the next event his/her ranking value may be adjusted appropriately upward or downward to reflect their current skill level for the next competition.

Archers shooting different equipment, when previously ranked, must be treated as a new competitor for competition purposes and will be reranked. An archer may change equipment only once in a year and must declare the type of equipment used or any changes in equipment since their last competition upon registration.
